Jacob is so busy and into all kinds of things. He is also having a language explosion. I will just share a few of my favorite things....
1. He has an obsession and I mean obsession with his lovie "Momo" the monkey. We don't go to sleep or anywhere else for that matter without Momo. I've considered buying a couple extra just to have on hand in case Momo gets lost.
2. Outside. Outside. Outside. This kid could stay outside all day. We try to play outside as much as the weather allows. Usually in the early morning and late in the evening. Also, our neighbors just got a trampoline. Jacob thinks it is quite fun to jump on it. And, he isn't scared one bit!!
3. Hummus, lemonade, fruit snacks, and cauliflower have been added to the palate. Also, the independence phase has kicked in. We are not allowed to help with anything. Jacob wants to feed himself. And, he's doing a great job.
4. He sometimes drinks water out of a big person cup.
5. As I said earlier, the language is exploding. Some of my favorites are: mama, Samson (shanson), Emily (Memy), Lele, JJ (Jayme), Coach, bellybutton, mower (lawnmower), Momo, goat, wawa (water), memelon (watermelon), push, muf muf (muffin), Bible, uh oh, yuck yuck, yellow, flower, purple, daldo (all done).
We are working on Grammy but he is having some trouble with the "gr" sound. Right now is sound like "rema".
6. Our family has been discussing as of late that we might just have a little comedian on our hands. Jacob is SO expressive, talkative, and he is constantly making us laugh. He knows just what to do to get a reaction. I personally think every family should have at least one really witty person...makes things so much more fun!!
Jacob and I spent a few days last week (as a result of the flood - story below) with Papa Doc and Grammy. We really enjoyed our mornings out on their big shaded back porch. Here is my little cuddle bug.
playing with his cars
Shanson got to hang out too
As most of you probably know by now Nashville was flooded last weekend. Things started early Saturday morning and didn't stop until late Sunday night. We live by Opryland and right down the street from Lock 2 (part of the Cumberland River). Saturday and most of Sunday we were fine....just glued to the news and watching destruction happen to our beloved city. Several times on Sunday Jared drove down to the Lock 2 to check out the river. When Jacob got up from his nap Sunday afternoon around 5:30 we all went down to check it out. At this time the water still had to rise 5-6 ft. to the bank, then overflow into the playground, then down the street, then flood 2 neighborhoods before getting to ours. We thought we were fine. About 9 that night Jared decided to go check one last time. When he came back the water was in OUR neighborhood. It had come all that way in just a few short hours.
We stood outside with our neighbors trying to decide what to do. A rescue worker drove by and told us if we wanted to get out now was our chance "the water is coming 2 feet per hour. If you want to leave do it now." We decided to go. We went back inside and took some things upstairs. As I was packing stuff in our suitcase the siren came on and we heard them telling us to prepare to evacuate. So.....at 10:30 all four of us headed down to Franklin to stay with Jared's parents. My parent's basement was flooded. Jacob and I stayed there through Wednesday evening.
Many areas of Nashville were ruined. A little over 1/2 of our neighborhood was flooded. The neighborhood next to ours was COMPLETELY destroyed. Opryland and Opry Mills were flooded too. Thankfully our house was fine, but I just feel so much for all those families that lost everything. Below are some pictures Jared took of our neighborhood Monday morning after the rains finally stopped.
